The job of Intuit Sync Manager is (presuming you allow it), to sync your accounting data into Intuit’s secure cloud. I wouldn’t quite call it a “backup” (that’s not quite the purpose) — it’s more about keeping a recent sync of your accounting data in the cloud for your benefit when you decide to authorize a 3rd party application to interact with it. So, for example, a 3rd party application that you authorize to access your Chart of Accounts, will (after you authorize it) ask Intuit’s cloud for the latest Chart of Accounts. And, without you having to so much as press a single button on your QuickBooks PC, you’ll be able to let that 3rd party app get access to the information that it needs.
